Finding Freedom | Giving Life
“Helping people LIVE FREE as transformed people, family, church and culture.”
“Filling the earth with the glory of the Lord as the kingdom of God comes in every nation through transformed people, transformed family, transformed church and transformed culture.”
Here’s a quick summary of what we believe. If you want, you can dive down into the details below.
We believe in one God who exists eternally as Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe that Jesus is the Son of God and the Savior of the world. Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, is the only true revelation of God the Father.
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the supernatural presence, power and person of God indwelling believers throughout the world.
We believe that Jesus is the Word of God and that Holy Scripture is the infallible “God-breathed” testimony of his life and ministry. We believe the Bible is a faithful witness of Christ, and thus it is the guide for our life and practice.
We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a distinct and ongoing experience following salvation, and that all the gifts of the Spirit described in the New Testament remain available and essential to the church until the resurrection when Christ comes again.
We believe that God still saves, delivers and heals—miraculously and supernaturally.
We believe that we are saved by grace alone through faith alone.
We believe that the church of Jesus is “the Ekklesia,” the local and global gathering—the kingdom assembly—of believers everywhere throughout the world.
We believe that the kingdom of God comes through the transformation caused by God’s love among all people in every nation under heaven with significant and evident victory over evil powers prior to the Second Coming.
We believe that the family—the covenant household—is a key element in the advance of Christ’s kingdom through generational momentum, and that the cornerstone of family renewal in the earth is the preservation of marriage as exclusively for life between a biological male and a biological female.
We believe that sex is a beautiful, powerful expression of the divine image in humans given by God to unite mysteriously two souls into one, and that sex, like fire, is profoundly beneficial in its place—within a lifelong, covenant marriage between a biological male and a biological female.
Again, if you want, there’s loads more detail below (with handy scripture references and everything!).
Everyone’s agog these days over “Values Statements.” We simply couldn’t pass up an opportunity to share ours. Here you go:
WHAT KIND OF CHURCH ARE WE?
1. We are a Jesus-believing church.
Jesus is the Word of God, and the Holy Scriptures are the infallible witness of Jesus. Thus, the Bible is our rule of faith and life. We work to conform everything we say and do to a Christ-centered and Spirit-led interpretation of Scripture.
2. We are a non-denominational church.
Our church is an independent congregation. Though we are not affiliated with any traditional Christian denomination, we belong to the “Association of Related Churches” (arcchurches.com). And while we are non-denominational, we are not non-doctrinal. We have a strong Statement of Faith based on the reality of Jesus witnessed in Scripture.
3. We are a Spirit-filled church.
We believe in the person and power of the Holy Spirit at work in the church. We fully embrace all the gifts of the Spirit given by Jesus to equip his church to fulfill his mission in the earth. Our Sunday services are carefully structured to introduce people to Jesus and to the power of the Holy Spirit in a simple, understandable—yet lively!—way, as taught by Scripture.
4. We are a family church.
Our vision is to minister effectively to families. We believe that the church is a congregation of households. We must take church home!
5. We are a generational church.
At Freedom Life, we value people of all ages serving in Christ’s kingdom. We honor the old and empower the young. Every generation must have as its primary goal the transfer of the gospel to the next generation. While we always work to keep ministry edgy and progressive, we also treasure the wisdom and experience of those who’ve blazed the trail before us.
6. We are a kingdom church.
We believe that the “church” is actually “the ekklesia” of King Jesus, his kingdom, governmental assembly where heaven’s business is conducted on earth. We believe that the ekklesia gathers on Sunday and beyond as a “kingdom training center” to equip people to serve as kingdom agents in the world.
We believe that the kingdom of God is the rule of King Jesus as Lord over every realm of life. Thus, we work to align every part of our lives—from family, to school, to work—with the rule of Jesus. We believe that we are salt and light called to advance the kingdom of God in every nation, in every realm of human society and over all the powers of darkness. We believe that the kingdom of God is seeing and will continue to see profound victory in every nation and in every realm of society until Jesus returns.
7. We are a missions church.
Freedom Life Church supports local, national and global missions.
8. We are a reconciliation church.
We are a Reconciliation Congregation: we believe that we are called to model and mediate reconciliation to the world, especially racial reconciliation.
9. We are a freedom church.
Our motto is “live free.” We believe that we are called to preach freedom for the captives and the breaking down of spiritual strongholds.
10. We are a servant church.
We believe that we lead by serving.
Now, as promised, here’s more detail on what we believe:
ABOUT THE BIBLE
We believe the Bible is the story of Jesus. The Bible points us to Jesus, who reveals the Father. We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God, written by the hands of men, by the direct guidance of the Holy Spirit. We accept it as our infallible guide in matters pertaining to conduct and doctrine. It is accurate, authoritative and applicable to our everyday lives.
(2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:16-21, Matthew 5:18, John 16:12, 13)
ABOUT GOD
We believe in one eternal God who is the Creator of all things. He exists eternally as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The manifestation in history of God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit reveals who God has always been. God is one, God is holy and God is love.
(Deuteronomy 6:4; John 1:1, 14; John 15:26; 2 Corinthians 13:14)
ABOUT JESUS
We believe that Jesus reveals the Father. We learn who God is and what he is like through Jesus. We believe that the only way to God is through Jesus, since he alone fully and truly reveals God. Jesus, as both God and man, lived, served, died, rose again, ascended and poured out the Holy Spirit in order to reconcile us to God, to reveal who he is and to indwell us with his Spirit.
Jesus now rules from heaven over all the nations of the earth, and he will come again to rule forever with his people on the earth. The kingdom of Jesus is growing in every nation under heaven as the gospel is preached and the nations are healed until “the knowledge of the glory of the Lord shall cover the earth as the waters cover the sea” (Habakkuk 2:14). Jesus will return bodily to make all things new in the resurrection.
(John 1:1,2, Luke 1:35, Matthew 1:18, Matthew 25:31, John 19 & 20, Acts 1:9-11, Romans 3:24, 1 Peter 2:24, 1 Peter 4:5, Hebrews 7:25, 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17, 1 Timothy 4:1)
ABOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT
We believe that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God and Christ who comes to dwell within believers to bring regeneration, sanctification and empowerment. Believers are baptized into the body of Christ by the Holy Spirit. Believers receive the indwelling Holy Spirit when they hear the gospel and believe, and they are then commanded to be “filled with the Spirit,” which is a subsequent and ongoing experience that begins with being “baptized” in the power of the Holy Spirit.
As Jesus said, “You will receive power after the Holy Spirit comes upon you,” which is the evidence of being baptized with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes upon us with the empowerment for witness. This empowerment includes all the gifts of the Spirit listed in the New Testament, which are available to all believers and essential to the mission of the church until the church is made complete at the Second Coming of Jesus.
(Acts 1:4-5, Acts 1:8, Acts 2:4, Acts 10:44-48, Acts 19:1-6, Matthew 3:11, John 14:16,17, John 16:8-11, 2 Corinthians 3:6, Romans 8:9, Ephesians 5:18)
ABOUT MAN
We believe man is a created being, made in the likeness of God. We believe that through Adam's transgression, sin entered the world and, through the lie of alienation, sin separated us in our darkened, deluded mind from God and his purpose for our lives. Apart from Jesus, man is spiritually dead and powerless to save himself. Salvation only comes through Jesus, who is the Truth that breaks the lie. Jesus died in our place to reveal the truth of the Father’s love for us so that we can be made alive in all our fullness and union with God.
(Romans 5:12, 1 Peter 1:18-19, Genesis 1:26-27, Romans 3:22,23, Romans 5:12, Ephesians 2:8, 1 John 3:8)
ABOUT SALVATION
We believe God does not desire for any to perish, but that all would be saved. We were saved in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, which we receive when we hear and believe the truth of the Father’s love for us manifest in Christ. We receive new life when we believe the truth of the Good News and repent, which means to turn from the lie to the truth, to change our way of thinking and believe what God says is true. We believe that we are saved freely by grace through faith in Jesus Christ.
(1 John 5:11-12, John 3:16, 2 Corinthians 7:10, Ephesians 2:8-10, Ephesians 1:7, 1 Peter 1:18-19)
ABOUT WATER BAPTISM
We believe that baptism is the official, covenant initiation of believers into the church, the body of Christ. Baptism is our investiture ceremony as kings and priests with Christ. Baptism is a public confession that Jesus is Lord. Baptism “binds on earth what has been bound in heaven.” Through baptism, we celebrate our immersion into union with Christ and identify with his death, burial and resurrection.
(Matthew 28:19, Acts 2:38, Romans 6:4, Colossians 2:12)
ABOUT HEALING
We believe God wants to heal and transform us so we can mediate heaven’s reality on earth, and so we can live healthy and prosperous lives in order to serve others more effectively. Healing is a sign that the kingdom is here on earth right now. Physical healing was provided for in the atonement of Christ, and it is to be received through faith, by the laying on of hands, by the anointing with oil, and by the prayer of faith. We also believe that inner healing—the healing of our mind, will and emotions—was purchased by Christ at the cross and is available to all Christians through the power of the Holy Spirit. Healing flows out of believers into the world for the healing of the nations.
(Isaiah 53:5, Deuteronomy 7:15, 1 Peter 2:24, James 5:14,15, Mark 16:18, Matthew 8:17)
ABOUT THE CHURCH
We believe the church is the “ekklesia” of King Jesus. Jesus establishes the church in every community to train his people for kingdom influence in the world. The church is the congregation of King Jesus that assembles to encounter his presence, experience heart change, equip to serve and empower to influence. The local church is an expression of the global church and joins every time it gathers in the “communion of the saints” with all believers around the world and in the heavens awaiting the resurrection.
(Matthew 16:18, Ephesians 1:22,23, Ephesians 5:25-27, 1 Corinthians 12:12-14, 2 Corinthians 11:2, Acts 13:1-4; 14:27; 15:19-31; 18:22; 20:17; 20:28, 1 Timothy 3:1-3, Titus 1:5-11, Romans 16:1-4, 1 Corinthians 3:9, 1 Corinthians 5:4-7, 1 Peter 5:1-4)
ABOUT MARRIAGE
We believe that God created humans as male and female to reveal his own image and glory. We affirm that God forms each individual in their mother’s womb according to their divine destiny. Every human is created to reveal the glory of God. We believe that sex is sacred and was designed by God to be enjoyed only within the commitment of a lifelong covenant between a man and woman. That covenant is called “marriage.” We believe that marriage was created as a lifelong covenant union between one man and one woman to reveal the nature of God; to reveal the love that Christ has for the church; and to preserve a godly seed for the generational growth of the blessing of Abraham in the earth.
(Genesis 1:26-28; Psalm 139:13-18; Malachi 2:15; Matthew 19:4-6; Ephesians 5:32)
